Chicago Carpenters Build New Addition At Millennium Park

There may not be a lot of sunshine these days, but when it returns there’ll be a new spot to catch some shade at the South Boeing Gallery in Chicago’s Millennium Park thanks to a new reclaimed timber pavilion crafted and installed by MACRC carpenters!

This partnership with Chicago Architectural Biennial, Millennium Park, Skidmore, Owens and Merrill (SOM), Norcon, Inc., and Washington University used salvaged wood to eliminate the need for new raw materials and provided our apprentices and journey-level carpenters with valuable hands-on experience in timber installation.

Special thanks to Training Coordinator Pat Sowers, Local 1 Representative/Organizer Henry Culbertson and all the instructors and members who came together on short notice to make it happen!
