Construction Best Practices in Occupied Facilities
Our Best Practices in Occupied Facilities presentation focuses on the renovation of existing spaces like health care facilities and occupied office environments. It provides an overview of the challenges and potential hazards involved when working in an occupied facility.
• Various barrier and dust control methods used to keep construction dust and debris from entering any nonconstruction areas.
• Chemicals, materials and mold that may be present are discussed to provide essential knowledge of their dangerous attributes.
• Proper floor preparation and moisture in the subfloor are addressed in order to provide an understanding of the problems that may occur from high moisture content and its effects on the finished floors.
• Training practices, proper guidelines and procedures in order to maintain a safe and operational environment for construction personal, facility staff and also the general public.

2nd Health Care Best Practices Event a Success
The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters sponsored the free Best Practices in Health Care Construction event on Oct. 27, 2010, for approximately 70 architects, contractors, vendors and hospital professionals. For these individuals it was a day spent learning about the latest strategies, techniques and technologies for construction projects in health care and occupied facilities. The classroom and hands-on presentations that were held at the Chicago Apprentice Training Center clearly displayed the need for the craftsmanship, certification and niche industry expertise of union carpenters who are trained in these advanced skills and safety.
