This course begins by addressing the question of why floors fail. The three main reasons are discussed along with an explanation of steps to avoid failure, including the importance of proper substrate preparation. Attendees will learn some of the history of hardwood flooring as well as the effects of moisture on hardwoods. Information will be presented about flooring selection, installation standards, sanding and finishing. INSTALL, the nationally developed training program for installers to achieve the dependability, precision, and professionalism the craft demands, will be presented along with its applicability to architects.
