This course begins with a brief history of carpeting. Characteristics of various types of fibers used in carpets are explained. Carpeting installation techniques including direct glue down, tackstrip, and double glue down are discussed. The Carpet and Rug Institute Installation Standards for Residential and Commercial carpeting are presented and the correct storage of this material is explained. Once the flooring is installed, methods and timeliness of cleaning the carpet to insure that it maintains that "new" look are reviewed. INSTALL, the nationally developed training program for installers and cleaners to achieve the dependability, precision and professionalism the craft demands, will be presented along with what this means to Architects.
